Born February 9, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA. Attended public schools - Childs Elementary, Barrett Jr. High, South Philadelphia High and BOK Voc/Tech. Enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17. I received training in Military operations, procedures and activities. Received technical training in electronics and computer repair at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi in 1962. Received many awards and training certificates both during and after 8 years of active duty. Rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5) after 6 of the eight years. Provided computer operations and repair training to junior level technicians.

Supervised a staff of six repair engineers on all electronic devices and systems including the new DEC Text Editing system for daily newspaper production.

Supervised the activities of 12 staff Technicians in support of computer systems operated by the United States Air Force.
 
Provided Tech Support functions to all lower level technicians.
 
Provided Computer Hardware Training for junior level technicians
 
Solved a major design flaw that resulted in the final acceptance of the Bunker Ramo designed PDP-11 Communications Device.
 
1973—1980 Digital Equipment Corp. Wash D.C.
Technical Support Engineer
 
Provided onsite and phone support to well over 60 field service engineers in support of company provided PDP-11 family of mini computer systems. Client locations were in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Baltimore Md and Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
 
Provided follow up training for junior level technicians on UniBus operation of computer systems and all peripheral devices.
 
Field service engineer for my first three years with the company. Repaired to the component level. Troubleshot, identified and replaced defective I.C. Chips at the component level. (Soldering skills)
 
Received “Factory level training” in Maynard, Mass on four of the PDP-11 family of computer systems. Also received training on devices such as Magnetic Tape Drives, Large capacity Disk Drives, and Data Products High speed Drum Printers.
 
Supported major customers such as the US Dept of State, The Pentagon, The Naval Research Labs, NASA (Goddard Space Flight Center) The US Army facilities and The Bell Telephone (Verizon) company.

Repaired Company provided 3300 systems at various Wall Street brokerage companies. Primary location was 110 Wall St.
 
I left the company after one year because I was commuting from Philadelphia to New York City every day. Too hard on my body. The company would not transfer me to the Philadelphia office.

Field Service Engineer
 
Supported company supplied CDC-3300 systems and peripheral devices such as…..Reel to reel Magnetic Tape Drives, High speed Punched Card readers, large capacity 132 column Printers and Disk drive systems.
 
Received “factory level” training in Minneapolis, Minnesota on all types of computer equipment including “IBM Selectric II Typewriters.”
 
Supported company supplied equipment in New York City.
 
 
1962—1970 United States Air Force
Computer Repairman (17 yrs old)
 
I was selected for “Operation Blue Suit” and became the “FIRST” “BLACK” Computer Repairman in the USAF.
 
Received Basic Electronics training at Keesler AFB, Biloxi Miss.
 
Received initial ANFSQ-7 Mainframe computer training in Brian Hall at Keesler AFB.
 
First assignment was Norton AFB, San Bernardino, Calif.
 
Transferred to Hamilton AFB, San Francisco Calif area.
 
 Received training at Keesler AFB on two other Mainframe systems over the years.
 
While stationed at Hamilton AFB, I provided system repair and troubleshooting concepts training for junior level computer repair personnel.
 
Transferred to remote Alaska in support of another computer system. I was there for one year.
 
Returned to Northern California and received training on a Univac 1218 computer system prior to leaving the Air force.
 
Promoted to rank of E-5 after five years of my eight years of active duty. Received many awards and decorations.
